Who Know the Qur’an Off by Heart
Those who have memorised the Qur’an are known as ‘Hafyz’.
Th eir eff ort is indeed very valuable. They are known as the
‘walking Qur’an’ as a result of memorising it. Some of us prefer
to call them the ‘living Qur’an instead.
Nowadays there is almost one hafyz in every street of Turkey
who has memorised the Qur’an off by heart. Even if there isn’t
a hafyz then one can certainly fi nd an asiir. To read an ashir
means that one can read a section of the Qur’an off by heart.
